Meta has introduced the Code World Model (CWM), a 32-billion-parameter model designed to enhance code understanding and generation by simulating program behavior before execution. In a company announcement, Meta detailed how CWM acts as a 'neural debugger,' predicting program outcomes and identifying potential infinite loops with 94% accuracy on the HaltEval benchmark.

CWM is capable of working backward from a program description to simulate execution and generate corresponding code. It also analyzes algorithm complexity, ranking second on the BigOBench benchmark for predicting time complexity. The model was trained on over 120 million Python program executions, using 'execution traces' to learn programming language semantics.

Meta has released CWM as an open-weights model under a non-commercial research license, making it available for further research through Hugging Face. The model supports context windows up to 131,000 tokens and can run on a single Nvidia H100 with 80 GB of memory.
