MAZU Scholarship and Nepal Weather Platform Receive 3 Million Yuan

Bank of China and merchants from Putian donated a combined 3 million yuan to support the MAZU Scholarship and a custom weather warning platform in Nepal.

In a Xinhua Silk Road press release, Bank of China and merchants from Putian donated a combined 3 million yuan to support the MAZU Scholarship and a custom MAZU cloud platform in Nepal. The bank contributed 1 million yuan, while the merchants provided 2 million yuan.

China Meteorological Administration released the AI enabled MAZU weather warning suite in 2025. It supports cloud trials in more than 40 countries and is used in countries including Pakistan, Ethiopia, Jordan, Sri Lanka and Mongolia.

The administration established the scholarship in June 2026 for visiting meteorological scholars from Belt and Road partner countries and weather workers from developing nations. Training related to MAZU has reached more than 1,000 workers across nearly 100 developing countries.
