Mashreq Pilots IBM Bob for Software Engineering

Mashreq is piloting IBM Bob for integration engineering; IBM says early results showed up to a 60% to 70% cut in time spent on design and troubleshooting.

Mashreq is piloting IBM Bob, IBM's AI software engineering platform, for integration engineering, IBM announced. The UAE bank is testing how agentic AI can help its integration teams across solution design, planning, development, code review and production troubleshooting.

According to IBM, tasks that previously took two to three hours were completed within minutes, and early results showed up to a 60% to 70% reduction in time spent on integration design and troubleshooting. Mashreq's integration platform processes an average of 650 transactions per second across digital channels, payments and enterprise systems, Fast Company Middle East reports.

Mashreq also uses IBM Context Forge, based on the Model Context Protocol, to give AI agents secure access to integration knowledge, API specifications, architecture standards and operational context. Through a secure gateway, the bank manages about 4,000 requests a month from AI agents to its digital banking, payments and enterprise systems.

The bank is exploring a future on premises deployment of IBM Bob for mission critical uses that may need locally hosted models to meet data residency and regulatory requirements.
