iCIMS and Aptitude Research Report Finds Candidates Outpacing Employers in AI Adoption

May 01, 2026
A new report from iCIMS and Aptitude Research shows that while most job candidates now use AI tools during their job search, many organizations are still struggling to scale AI effectively across their hiring processes.

iCIMS and Aptitude Research announced in a press release the release of The Definitive Guide to AI Adoption in Talent Acquisition, highlighting that candidates are adopting AI tools faster than employers. The research, based on a survey of more than 400 U.S. talent acquisition leaders, found that 74 percent of companies believe candidates use AI in their job searches, while only 18 percent of organizations report using AI broadly across hiring processes.

The study shows that 69 percent of companies are using AI in some capacity, most commonly for screening (58 percent), candidate communication (54 percent), assessments (50 percent), and sourcing (46 percent). Efficiency is the main reason for AI investment, with half of organizations prioritizing time savings over decision quality improvements.

Recruiters remain the main users of AI tools, and in 58 percent of organizations, human judgment overrides AI recommendations when conflicts arise. Despite recognizing the importance of transparency, 45 percent of companies lack a formal AI governance framework.

The report also notes that 46 percent of organizations are already using or plan to use agentic AI to coordinate recruiting tasks. This signals a shift toward more integrated and intelligent hiring processes as companies seek to connect AI capabilities across sourcing, screening, and candidate engagement.
