IBM to Acquire DataStax, Enhancing AI Capabilities
IBM has announced its intent to acquire DataStax, an AI and data solution provider, to enhance its watsonx portfolio and address generative AI data needs for enterprises. This acquisition, announced in a press release, aims to help businesses unlock value from unstructured data, a critical component for powering generative AI.
DataStax, known for its AstraDB and DataStax Enterprise, provides NoSQL and vector database capabilities powered by Apache Cassandra. These technologies will bolster IBM's efforts to scale generative AI applications by harnessing unstructured enterprise data. Additionally, DataStax's Langflow, a low-code AI application development tool, will integrate with IBM watsonx.ai to facilitate collaboration across diverse skill sets.
IBM plans to continue supporting open-source communities such as Apache Cassandra, Langflow, Apache Pulsar, and OpenSearch, in which DataStax participates. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
