Google Unveils Gemini-Powered Smart Home Devices and App Overhaul
Google has unveiled a new lineup of smart home devices and a redesigned Google Home app, both powered by its AI assistant, Gemini. The announcement was made alongside the introduction of new Nest devices, including the Nest Cam Outdoor, Nest Cam Indoor, and Nest Doorbell, all featuring 2K HDR video for enhanced image quality.
The revamped Google Home app aims to improve user experience by centralizing device management and integrating Gemini AI. The app has been redesigned for better performance and reliability, with improvements such as a 70% faster startup and 80% fewer crashes. It now supports over 800 million devices from more than 50,000 OEMs.
Gemini's capabilities extend to providing more context in notifications and enabling natural language interactions. Users can ask complex questions, create automations, and receive summaries of home activities through features like "Home Brief." The app's new design includes simplified navigation with three main tabs: Home, Activity, and Automation.
Additionally, Google has partnered with Walmart to offer affordable smart home devices under the onn brand, making AI-powered technology more accessible. The new devices and app updates are part of Google's strategy to enhance its smart home ecosystem and make Gemini AI widely available.
