Gmail Introduces AI Inbox and Gemini-Powered Features
Google has launched a new suite of AI features for Gmail, including an AI Inbox, AI Overviews, and a Proofread tool, announced in a press release. The update marks Gmail's entry into what the company calls the "Gemini era," aimed at making inbox management more proactive and personalized.
The new AI Inbox highlights actionable items and important updates by summarizing top-priority emails in sections like “Suggested to-dos” and “Topics to catch up on.” It identifies key messages, such as reminders or delivery updates, while filtering out less relevant content. Google is initially releasing this feature to trusted testers before a wider rollout.
AI Overviews in Gmail now allow users to search their inbox using natural language questions, generating concise summaries or answers based on email content. Conversation summaries within large email threads are available to all users, while question-based AI Overviews are limited to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
The Proofread feature offers grammar, tone, and style suggestions, similar to third-party writing assistants, and is also available for Pro and Ultra subscribers. Meanwhile, Help Me Write and Suggested Replies—tools that assist in drafting and responding to emails—are now accessible to all Gmail users at no cost.
