Elbit Systems Wins $210 Million Contract for Merkava Tank Upgrades

Elbit Systems has secured contracts worth about $210 million from the Israel Ministry of Defense to upgrade Merkava Main Battle Tanks over six years, including AI-enhanced electro-optical systems and comprehensive maintenance services.

Elbit Systems Ltd. has been awarded contracts totaling approximately $210 million from the Israel Ministry of Defense for the upgrade of Merkava Main Battle Tanks, announced in a press release. The work will be carried out over six years.

Under the contracts, the company will renew the tanks’ electronic assemblies to extend their operational service life and enhance multiple onboard systems. The upgrades include lightweight, AI-enhanced electro-optical sights that support panoramic day and night observation, as well as advanced target detection, acquisition, and tracking capabilities.

The contracts also cover the supply of spare parts and the provision of maintenance and support services.
