CropX Adds Soil Sensors to New Zealand Farming Trial

Oct 13, 2026
CropX Technologies will supply soil sensors and its digital agronomy platform for an eight year trial comparing regenerative and conventional farming in New Zealand.

CropX Technologies will provide soil sensing and digital agronomy technology to the Lincoln University McCain Foods NextGen Regenerative Farm in New Zealand, the company announced in a press release. The research program will run for eight years and compare regenerative and conventional farming systems throughout a full potato rotation.

CropX will install soil moisture probes at depths of 60 or 90 centimeters across crops in the rotation. Its AI powered platform will combine measurements from the probes with weather data, satellite imagery and actual evapotranspiration monitoring.

Researchers will use the data to assess soil health, crop performance, water and nutrient use, yields and profitability. The technology will also support variable rate irrigation, compare soil moisture across treatments and provide disease warnings to inform spray timing.
