commercetools has launched the Sphere platform, introducing a new category called Autonomous Commerce that enables AI systems to make and execute commerce decisions independently in real time.

commercetools has introduced a new category called Autonomous Commerce and unveiled its Sphere platform for the AI era of shopping, announced in a press release. The company describes Autonomous Commerce as a system where AI can sense signals, determine actions, and execute them within defined rules, allowing enterprises to operate at machine speed.

The Sphere platform provides the infrastructure for these autonomous operations, enabling businesses to use AI without rebuilding their existing systems. It currently powers over 100 billion dollars in annualized gross merchandise value and supports workloads that require rapid response times. The platform offers access to commerce modules such as carts, orders, checkout, catalog, and promotions through real time APIs.

Sphere also includes governance controls that define what each AI agent can do, ensuring enterprise oversight. It supports use cases including dynamic pricing, inventory forecasting, fulfillment routing, and automated campaign management. commercetools plans to preview its MosAIc operations tool at Shoptalk Europe, demonstrating multi-agent orchestration across pricing, promotions, and fulfillment.
