Open Source Clawdmeter Displays Claude Code Usage on Desktop

May 15, 2026
An Icelandic developer has created Clawdmeter, an open source desktop device that tracks Anthropic's Claude Code usage, showing real time token stats and animations on a small Bluetooth display.

According to TechCrunch, software developer Hermann Haraldsson from Reykjavik has built an open source device called Clawdmeter that shows Claude Code usage data on a small desktop display. The project connects to a laptop via Bluetooth and retrieves usage information through the user's Claude Code OAuth token.

The device uses a Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-2.16 screen powered by a small lithium ion battery. When turned on, it displays pixel art animations of the Claude mascot that become more active as token usage increases. A middle button cycles between animation modes, usage charts, and Bluetooth status screens.

Haraldsson said Claude helped guide him through building the embedded device within a few days. The project has attracted attention on GitHub, where more than 800 users have starred it and 50 have forked it since its May 10 release. Because it is open source, users can modify the design, animations, and functionality.
