Builder.ai Faces Insolvency After Cash Seizure
Builder.ai, a British AI startup backed by Microsoft and the Qatar Investment Authority, is set to enter insolvency proceedings. This decision follows the seizure of $37 million from its accounts by Viola Credit, a major creditor, leaving the company with only $5 million, according to Bloomberg.
The company, which operates in multiple jurisdictions including the UK, US, and India, will file for bankruptcy in accordance with each region's legal processes. The remaining funds are reportedly held in Indian accounts and cannot be used to pay employees due to restrictions on moving money out of the country.
Builder.ai, known for its platform that allows businesses to create custom apps with minimal coding, has faced significant financial challenges. The company recently appointed Manpreet Ratia as CEO and has undergone leadership changes and financial audits following allegations of inflated sales figures. Despite efforts to stabilize, the company has been unable to recover from past financial strains, leading to the current insolvency proceedings.
