Boeing, GACA, and SkyGrid Begin Feasibility Study for Advanced Air Mobility in Saudi Arabia

May 26, 2026
Boeing Saudi Arabia, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, and SkyGrid have launched an airspace and operational feasibility analysis to evaluate advanced air mobility operations across the Kingdom, supported by KAUST.

In a press release, Boeing Saudi Arabia and the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced the launch of an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Airspace and Operational Feasibility Analysis with support from SkyGrid and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

The study will evaluate the operational and regulatory viability of AAM in Saudi Arabia, aligning with GACA's AAM Roadmap. It will assess routes, cooperative airspace areas, communication and navigation systems, and infrastructure such as vertiports and airports to demonstrate the feasibility of safe and sustainable operations for both piloted and remotely piloted aircraft.

The analysis will cover operations under Visual Flight Rules, Instrument Flight Rules, and eventually Automated Flight Rules, a framework for fully autonomous flight. Modeled on Boeing's Concept of Operations for Automated Flight Rules, the project will focus on medium density and medium complexity environments with collaborative automated systems.
