AU10TIX Identifies New Fraud Technique 'Repeaters' in Q1 2025 Report

AU10TIX's latest report highlights a new fraud method called 'Repeaters,' which involves minor variations of digital assets to test detection systems before large-scale attacks.

AU10TIX has released its Q1 2025 Global Identity Fraud Report, revealing a new fraud technique termed 'Repeaters.' Announced in a press release, Repeaters involve minor variations of digital assets, such as face pictures and document numbers, used by fraudsters to test detection systems before launching large-scale attacks.

The report notes a 33% increase in the use of Repeaters from Q1 2024 to Q1 2025, driven by Fraud-as-a-Service toolkits that include deepfake images and templates. These techniques are designed to bypass KYC checks and biometric defenses by mimicking genuine facial behavior and spoofing liveness checks.

AU10TIX emphasizes the importance of consortium validation to detect these early indicators of fraud. This approach involves cross-checking data across a network of organizations to flag fraudulent IDs that may appear genuine in isolation. The report also provides actionable insights for organizations to enhance their fraud defenses, including shifting from static to behavioral detection and auditing for synthetic identity vulnerabilities.
