Apple Plans to Turn Siri Into Built-In AI Chatbot

January 22, 2026
Apple is preparing a major Siri overhaul that will transform the voice assistant into an AI chatbot integrated across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, according to Bloomberg. The chatbot, codenamed Campos, will launch later this year as part of iOS 27 and use Google’s Gemini AI technology.

Apple plans to transform Siri into an AI chatbot integrated across iPhone, iPad, and Mac later this year, according to Bloomberg. The new version, internally codenamed Campos, will be embedded directly into operating systems and replace the current Siri interface.

The chatbot will support both voice and text input and will be able to perform tasks such as searching the web, generating images, creating content, summarizing information, and analyzing uploaded files. It will also integrate with Apple’s core apps, including Mail, Photos, and Music, allowing users to complete more actions through voice commands.

The new Siri will rely on a custom version of Google’s Gemini AI model, developed under a partnership that sees Apple Inc. paying Google about $1 billion annually for access to its technology. The chatbot will use Apple’s Foundation Models version 11, a system comparable to Gemini 3, and may be hosted on Google’s servers using tensor processing units.

Apple aims to unveil the chatbot at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, with a public release expected in September. The update marks a significant shift for Apple, which has previously downplayed standalone conversational AI tools popularized by OpenAI and others.
