Anthropic in Talks to Raise $10 Billion in New Funding Round
Anthropic is reportedly in discussions to raise $10 billion in a new funding round, doubling its previous target, according to The Information. The company, known for its Claude generative AI service, initially aimed to raise $5 billion at a $170 billion valuation, but strong investor demand has led to an increase in the funding amount.
Iconiq Capital is leading the round, with participation expected from TPG Inc., Lightspeed Venture Partners, Spark Capital Management, and Menlo Ventures. Discussions are also ongoing with the Qatar Investment Authority and Singapore's sovereign fund GIC about joining the round.
This new funding is anticipated to bolster Anthropic's competition with other AI giants like OpenAI and xAI Inc., both of which have secured significant funding this year. Anthropic's last funding round in March raised $3.5 billion at a $61.5 billion valuation. The current round, if completed, would mark a substantial increase in the company's valuation.
