Amazon Plans €4.8 Billion AWS Expansion in Germany
Amazon plans to invest more than €16 billion ($18 billion) in Germany in 2027, it announced on its website. The company presented the plan on October 20 at the German government's Invest in Germany Summit in Berlin.
The total includes €4.8 billion to expand the Amazon Web Services Europe (Frankfurt) Region. The additional capacity will support demand for cloud and AI services. AWS has operated the Frankfurt Region since 2014, while its European Sovereign Cloud in Germany became generally available in January 2026.
Amazon is also opening a second robotics and AI research lab in Berlin. The lab will add roles for applied scientists and robotics hardware, software, and systems engineers. Other parts of the investment cover logistics facilities, Amazon Leo satellite internet, and Prime Video productions.
