Algorand Foundation Launches AC2 Protocol for AI Agent Signing Requests
The Algorand Foundation announced in a press release the public launch of AC2, an open source protocol for secure communication between users and AI agents. The specification and reference implementation are available at github.com/algorandfoundation/ac2.
AC2 creates a direct encrypted WebRTC connection between a user wallet or app and an AI agent. When an agent needs a signature for a payment, code commit, or API authorization, it sends the request to the user. The user reviews and approves it in their wallet interface, and the signature is delegated back to the agent without exposing the private key.
The protocol uses DIDComm v2.0 message formats and Liquid Auth, which is built on FIDO2/WebAuthn. It supports voice and text streaming, signing delegation, and extensions for additional message types or signing formats.
Algorand Foundation also released a wallet prototype and an OpenClaw plugin for developer testing. The protocol does not require a central message relay or a blockchain to operate.
