5WPR Study Finds Anthropic and OpenAI Lead AI Revenues but Differ in Communication Transparency

May 28, 2026
A new 5WPR study shows that Anthropic and OpenAI dominate AI sector revenues, with Anthropic reaching about $30 billion and OpenAI around $25 billion, while only a third of major AI companies disclose usage or revenue data.

5WPR announced in a press release the results of The AI Company Comms Study 2026, which benchmarks communication practices among 15 leading AI firms. The report finds that only about one third of these companies regularly share concrete data such as user numbers, revenue, or enterprise customer counts.

The study identifies a divide between revenue scale and communication scale. Anthropic reached an annualized revenue of approximately 30 billion dollars in April 2026, surpassing OpenAI, which recorded about 25 billion dollars in February 2026. Despite this financial scale, several major AI brands are described as operating in near silence.

The study also notes that founder visibility does not necessarily correlate with positive sentiment and that enterprise AI adoption is now measurable across industries. The methodology used public communications, funding disclosures, third party analytics, and reporting from verified sources. 5WPR plans to release updated editions of the study quarterly.
