Anthropic Introduces Weekly Rate Limits for Claude Subscribers
Starting August 28, Anthropic will introduce new weekly rate limits for its Claude subscribers. This change is expected to impact less than 5% of users, based on current usage patterns. The decision comes as a response to policy violations such as account sharing and reselling access, as well as advanced usage patterns like running Claude continuously in the background, which have affected system capacity.
The new limits will include an overall weekly usage limit and a specific weekly limit for Claude Opus 4, both resetting every seven days. These limits are in addition to the existing five-hour usage limits. Most users are not expected to notice any difference, as the weekly limits are designed to support typical daily use across projects.
Anthropic Claude has experienced significant growth, particularly with its subscription bundle, prompting the company to implement these measures to ensure a more equitable experience for all users. Heavy users, especially those with large codebases or running multiple instances in parallel, may reach their limits sooner. Users can manage or cancel their subscriptions at any time through the settings.
Anthropic has also acknowledged recent reliability and performance issues and is actively working to resolve them, ensuring a stable service for all users.
